Remnant Asset Management Platform for a Leading Buyer & Seller

Case Study – Do Systems Inc.

About the Client

Our client is a large remnant asset buyer and seller. They acquire remnant assets from over
2,000 companies, including:

  • Fortune 500 publicly traded corporations
  • Portfolio companies of major private equity firms
  • Privately held mid-market businesses

Their business depends on accurately ingesting, normalizing, analyzing, and searching large volumes of
asset data received on a recurring basis.

Business Challenge

The client receives weekly asset files from thousands of counterparties. They needed a way to:

  • Ingest and validate file data
  • Correct data quality issues where needed
  • Update asset records in centralized storage
  • Provide analytics to the management team
  • Enable customer support to quickly search properties and their full history

They required:

  • A web application for customer support to search and view asset and property history
  • A web application for the management team for analytics and reporting
  • A data warehousing layer to read, clean, and standardize incoming file data
  • A high-performance search layer that performs well under repeated queries
  • Strong data security and access controls throughout the stack

Our Solution

1. Product Strategy & Architecture

Do Systems partnered with the client to design and implement the platform end-to-end:

  • Analyzed the existing legacy system (originally built for another purpose) to identify
reusable components and required data APIs
  • Designed an architecture that separates data ingestion, storage, search, and analytics
  • Created a detailed product backlog and prioritized features based on
customer support needs, management reporting, and revenue impact
  • Adopted Agile Scrum, delivering functionality in small increments to gather feedback early and
    refine the product continuously
2. Web Applications for Management & Customer Support

We built a modern, browser-based application tailored to the needs of different user groups:

Customer Support Application

  • Search assets and properties primarily by address
  • View accurate, recent, and relevant results with full history
  • Quickly answer customer inquiries using a clean, task-focused interface

Management & Analytics Application

  • Interactive dashboards and reports on assets, performance, and cash flows
  • Self-service access to key metrics needed for decision-making
  • Drill-down views from summary analytics into underlying asset records

Role-based access control ensures that only authorized users can view or manage data.

3. Performance Optimization & Scalability

To deliver fast search and reporting across large data volumes, we focused on performance and scalability:

  • Implemented Redis Cache to serve repeated queries instantly and reduce load on the core database
  • Designed and implemented microservices in a .NET backend with
SQL Server as the primary data store
  • Architected the system to scale both horizontally and vertically, allowing the client to handle
growing data volumes and user traffic without redesigning the platform

This significantly improved response times, user experience, and
overall infrastructure efficiency.

4. Data Security & Abuse Prevention

Given the sensitivity and commercial value of the asset data, security was a core requirement. We:

  • Implemented a data abstraction layer so raw data is not directly exposed from server to client
  • Enforced strict authorization and access control to ensure users only see what they are
    permitted to see
  • Conducted vulnerability assessments and security testing to harden the product against common threats
  • Built a monitoring and bot-detection process to analyze incoming requests, detect abnormal or
abusive patterns, and block high-risk users

This approach protects both the client’s data assets and their customers.

5. Admin & Back-Office Platforms

To support internal operations, we also delivered admin and back-office capabilities:

  • User management and role-based access control
  • Tools to provide after-sales customer support efficiently
  • Operational and financial reports on users, usage, assets, and cash flows

These tools give the client full visibility into platform performance and make it easier to
manage day-to-day operations.

Impact

  • An integrated platform for ingesting, correcting, and managing remnant asset data
  • Fast, reliable search and analytics for both customer support and management
  • A scalable, secure architecture built on microservices, Redis, and SQL Server
  • Strong data security, monitoring, and abuse prevention baked into the product
